The suspension came almost exactly two years after Greece were crowned European football champions in Portugal, on July 4, 2004.

Greek newspapers picked up on the symbolism by talking about a "black anniversary" and "global humiliation" for the 2004 champions

I have to admit that I don't know all the in's and out's of the Greek situation, only the basics. However when we start talking about stripping titles, there must be conclusive proof that the tournament and win was directly linked to or a result of unfair or illegal behavior or fixed results etc. I'm not sure that was the case here. You may have to enlighten me some more. I suppose and I don't mean this offensively or judgmentally, that if they were stripped they may have recourse to suggest that Italy should not have been able to compete in the WC until the investigation into match fixing had been resolved to FIFA'S satisfaction also. I guess it all gets a bit sticky and National Federations will obviously use examples of similar occurrences to defend their points of view, right or wrong.

Oh and I'm not saying by any means that I believe Italy should have been banned from competing, in case you think that.

No... why should that happen? I mean, Greece didn't make it to the 2006 World Cup. And if it has that title, let them keep what the earned!

I plead the fifth, even though I'm not American!!
I don't want Touzours on my back!

I think stripping them of the title would be harsh.
