when should you take off work before the labor? I was going to take the week before off, my due date is March 15th and I was planning on taking from March 7th off until 6 weeks later.. but, several people have told me to take off before that?? why should you take off earlier? Unless my doctor advises me to take off, my feet are starting to swell badly but, I'm waiting to see what she says..

I worked up until the day before the delivery of my second child, granted he was a scheduled c-section, but regardless I don't think you NEED to take any time off before the baby comes. If you want to and you can then go for it, take off whenever you want, although I would save more time for after the delivery. Also keep in mind that you don't know for sure when you will deliver, you could end up like me and be a week late then you'll only have four weeks home with the baby... If your doctor tells you to take more time off then that would be different and you should do what they recommend. Good luck and I hope your delivery is as painless and fast as possible! :-)

With my first I worked as a cashier at a farm and ranch store, due date was July 27, worked July 8 until 9pm, had my baby July 9 at 1:30pm. With my second I worked in a warehouse (4 10hour shifts), due date was Dec.5, worked a couple hours Dec.1 had my baby Dec. 2 at 1:59pm. Now pregnant with number 3 and still at the same job, due April 7, planning on working till the end unless otherwise directed by the doctor. Each person and pregnancy are different because I am already having some problems with this one and may have to stop working early.

Good Luck!

I worked right up until the day I delivered with my oldest and youngest. Wasn't working at the time I had my middle child. I would say you will need more time after the baby is born than before. But if your doctor tells you to take time off because of the swelling then there is not much you can do.

If you can afford to take the time off, then do because it's the last bit of free time you'll have for a long time (not trying to scare you, just true!)

With my first child I worked up until the day before my son was born, 2 weeks overdue! I took off the day before so I could rest up before I went in to be induced.

This time around, I think I'll take off a week before my due date just so I can laze around and enjoy my son before the next one arrives!

It depends on your job. If you are sitting most of the time, I don't see why you can't work longer. If you are a waitress or you are on your feet all the time, I would take off sooner so you don't have to worry about premature labor, and you can have some time for yourself before the baby comes. You'll definitely want to absorb as much peace and relaxation as you can!

It's less stress on you when you take off sooner. Also 80% of women don't make it to their due date. It isn't safe to wait so close to your due date.
