Ward's Book of Days provides an observation on each of the days of the year. Here you will find 366 (remember, there is an extra day in Leap Year) anecdotes of an event that took place on this day at some time in history.

At http://www.historychannel.com/tdih.do you can enter a day and it will tell you what was happening. Also, if you trust Wikipedia you could just type in your birthday minus the year and it'll show you lots of stuff. Hope these help.
