Would anyone happen to know where I can find a website that will allow me to listen to a variety of artist's CDS, for free?

http://www.imeem.com is THE BEST site to listen to the newest music out gurl! Rhapsody and those other sites won't have it until 2 weeks after the album is out, but IMEEM has all the songs before they even start playing on the radio.
Just go there, type in the song you want to listen to or some of the title, or just browse the artists (every artist you can think of...you name it, they have it)

It has thousands upon thousands of Internet radio stations. Including major radio stations broadcasting over the net. It's FREE (you will hear ads in between songs) and LEGAL. Just like terrestrial radio.

Lady, that's free loading. As a recording artist, I can say you are shameful. I don't ask you to do your job for free, don't do that to me. You want to listen to music for free, it's called Radio.

You could always use the Yahoo! Launchcast radio on Yahoo! Messenger. Or youtube. But you'd pretty much have to change it every song.
