How do you know you have a virus. Does the antivirus software tell you so? Some viruses actually do no harm whatsoever, so forget those and move on.
You say youre using AVG??? Make sure you got latest update on that AVG because its probably a new virus lurking around that found its way into your computer.
I dont use Mcaffee or Norton That stuff isnt worth the money. Go to www.freegrisoft.com and get a good virus remover for free. Be sure you update too using it
I also use Spybot for free and that is a anti spy that works well.
Remember Virus is different than antispy. Two different things. So you need Antivirus and Antispy
On the Spybot you can vacinate your computer to stop all snooping into it when you run it.
Are you running windows XL or 2000, You then need a Firewall too. They give a firewall, be sure to activate it. or download another for free from www.zonealarm.com
Sometimes a virus is so embeded in the Registery you cannot get it out because it is attached to several needed operating system programs. In that case, you need totally clean out your system of all software and start from scratch. If you have Newer windows, use the restore discs its easy to do. Most times its not worth it so let this be a last resort. Then use that software ive indicated above and it will keep your system free of viruses, wormms and trojan horses.

yes there are several ways, depending on what the virus is, one way is to try is to get norton antivirus on cd and boot from the CD then do virus check before windows or even the computer starts up, if your talking about a trojan then you need to boot up in safe mode, you can do this when the computer is starting up keeping pressing F8 then select safe mode from bootup menu then run some like spyware doctor which should clean your system. hope this helps Malcolm

you need proper virus software then. Superantispyware is for spyware and AVG doesn't work well to get rid of some viruses.
Suggest you download and install avast from www.avast.com and let it run a boot time scan of your system.

Firstly, what is the virus called, and how do you know its a virus ?
Secondly, please dont be tempted to use Norton- its crap. I know, because we trialled it in a corporate capacity.
For a quick fix, use trend housecall online scan - its free :
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/housecall/housecall_launch.php
Its by far the best antivirus i have used.
For a free one, check out freegrisoft.com. they do a free spyware program there too.
If all else fails, put your xp cd in, reboot, reinstall xp, but you need to delete your partitions, and create new ones - some nasty viruses can survive a simple format.
Good Luck,

Are you sure it's a virus. Some anti-virus programs don't clear adware/spyware stuff.
Try this link: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
Copy above url into your browser and follow the on-screen prompts.
Also try using AV: http://www.avast.com/
this is free to download and is much better than other AV's.

norton, x-cleaner,spybot, ad-aware are about a guarentee to remove everything(when used together), but nothing is 100% guarenteed. also try googling the virus name or the error message you get. Theres always someone else with the same problem.
Limewire norton 2005 and keygen, as well as all other pay to use

I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
These are cleanup tools. Ad-aware cleans files, and SpyBot cleans the registry,
You might run your Anti-virus scan.
Go to START and pick RUN. Type MSCONFIG and go to the startup section. Uncheck the programs that you do not need. Keep your Anti-virus checked.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
