You could try pulling an all-nighter, obviously wait til your off the next day. Just stay up all night.. use coffee if you have to, or Yahoo! Answers =). By the time your normal reasonable bedtime rolls around the next night, you're guaranteed to be tired enough to sleep and that should get you back on track nicely.

Sleep issues are multifaceted.
I would first approach the 2 week shut down. Was there anything else that went on in your life during that time (really good or really bad) that maybee you need to talk to somebody about? Did you maybee have a really good idea about something?
based on how long you have only been getting the few hours & based on how you feel exhausted I would say that there is an issue that is bugging you, that maybee consiously is tough for you to identify. So reflect on it & then talk to someone you trust.

Your can take Valerian Root. Its an herbal supplement that aids in sleep. DO Not eat or drink anything high in protein, ie milk. Protein is harder than carbs or fats to digest therefore milk might make you wake up in the middle of the night.
Also limit all caffine intake 6 hours prior to your disired sleep time. Caffine is found in choclate, colas, coffee and tea.

First of all establish the time you want to go to sleep and stick to it. It may take awhile for your body clock to adjust. The normal person may lay awake up to 45 minutes, but more often the average person will fall asleep in 20 minutes or less.
If you find you are having problems falling asleep, try to concentrate solely on your breathing (like counting sheep), slow it down and you should nod off.

Learning to relax is the best advice and only you know what makes you relax. I had a problem but I read a book which said to imagine someone is gently stroking every part of your body so you start from top to bottom and include even your eyebrows and eyelashes. It takes a while but soon it becomes second nature and does help you to relax and drift off. Otherwise start reading a boring book.

establish a routine! What makes you relax-do that. Whether you sit down, have a cup of tea, or you said warm milk, read a book, have a nice warm bath, then off to bed, or all of those. Do it at the SAME time each night. your body will make the adjustment & it will be natural to go to bed that time & wake that time. You must go to bed that time & wake that time. Even on weekends, to get your body on schedule again.

It'll be hard, but pick a time like 10 pm or something and then just go to bed and lay there. Refuse to allow yourself to get up and leave the bed, and lay there even if you end up laying there awake all night. Do it every single night, your body will eventually start falling asleep at that time.

Go to sleep early. Turn off all the lights, NO TV. Melatonin is a non-narcotic sleep aid that does not leave you foggy headed. It always helps me get back on track.
