I know that by installing a graphics card it relieves all the video onto the card which improves performance of gameplay, but does installing a sound card do the same(relieve stress off of the computer for faster performance?)/

Not typically. It just doesn't work the same way, a lot more data is sent to the video card than to the sound card. Video cards actually run programs on them now to deal with all the data that sits on them, you will likely never see this scenario for sound.

There is likely to be little or no improvement in game performance by installing a better sound card. Any improvement is usually the result of offloading the sound responsibilities to the game card from the on-board sound card.

However, there will usually be a marked improvement in sound quality from a better sound card, and so you may enjoy the game more and thus feel it has improved preformance...the improvement in game performance is "perceived" rather than actual due to the better sound.

Video cards have to do a lot of complex math using vector graphics and the various colors and shades of colors to put where, dithering, bi-linear filtering, tri-linear filtering and the such. They usually have their own memory to store all this data and have what almost acts like a co-processor to deal with all the graphics information.

Sound cards do not normally have their own memory and don't deal with nearly as much information, even when dealing with Dolby 5.1 configurations.

yes, sound cards take some of the work away from the cpu and memory to allow for better performance of game play. Imagine if your eyes had ears, too! Talk about a headache! It's time for an upgrade!

It can a little. If the soundcard enables you to use hardware acceleration instead of software sound this will reduce some of the load on the CPU. Audio isn't quite as computationally expensive as video but there is some overhead. The bigger benefit, IMHO, is found in improved gameplay (e.g., positional audio, increased fidelity due to higher number of simultaneous streams).

the answer is, not really bro, but when your using a 5.1 or 7.1 setup a sound card really helps in improving sound quality of your gameplay and some researches say, it helps about 2-4 % of the performance on some sound cards,

well therez no explanation than that.

it depends on what sound type they have for the game... IE - if the game can have 5.1 surround sound and you do not have a 5.1 card, you can gain a whole lot from getting a new card.

I suggest getting a basic Sound blaster audigy and then a 5.1 surround sound set from logitech... all together i spent about $250 and now i have 400 watts and my sound is amazing...

It totally changes the game for me. Doom 3 is a whole new experience...

It definitely can help, especially if you have an onboard sound chip currently. Just remember to deactivate it from bios after you install the new card, so the computer does not assign it any resources.
