You should be considering a full 4 year ND accredited program. They usually require 2-3 years (and sometimes an undergrad degree) of general pre-medical (biology, physics, chemistry, biochem, english) courses before you apply.

In this aspect, the "good" ND programs have similar pre-requisites to allopathic medical school with the exception of the MCAT. You would *usually* do a pre-med program or an undergrad Science degree (usually bio).

Volunteer work and knowledge of the ND profession will help. So will a strong desire to learn.

Beware of schools with "loose" requirements. You probably wouldn't want to go there.

No background really. You will be studying alot about Plants, their botanical names as well as their common names and their medicinal uses. Also you will studying about disease's and conditions. So maybe a little knowledge in the health field maybe helpful. Most importantly, the willingness to help people.

It will help if you have a solid background in molecular biology, physics, chemistry, and biochemistry. Take all the classes you can in these areas.

Best wishes and good luck.
