My boss is a well known architect in the North West and he's a millionaire upteen times over , plus loads of properties in the city centre and in the Lake district.

Are you having a laugh!! That has to be the biggest misconception ever that Architect's are paid well!! Sure the top 1% of Fosters and Rogers et al, are all earning a packet but the other 99% of us don't!

The only people making any serious money are developers, contractors and principle Architects (who are employing the rest of us). I left uni after 6 years aged 24 to start on 20K. Not a lot for 6 years of training eh? My friend who left after 4 years to be a Building Surveyor was on 30K.

The main problem I have found however (and I have had a lot of jobs) is that pay varies form practice to practice. At a small practice I was getting paid 29K part II RIBA aged 28. I knew a bloke aged 33 fully qualified on 31K. Where's the justice in that!!

You probably make more money in the Emirate States or somewhere like that.

Architects make a fair amount of money in England based upon their experience and training.
