You should be able to remove it by going to the Control Panel in the Start menu. When the control panel comes up, click on Add or remove programs. When this list comes up, find McAfee on the list, high lite it, then click where it says change/remove, but on the end that says remove. Follow the instructions, and don't let it talk you out of removing it. That system is very aggressive, so just plow ahead. I use AVG Free Edition 7.5, and Spybot Search and Destroy for anti spyware. They are both free, and work very well.

Yes like any proper security application they can be hard to uninstall
I assume that you have tried to remove it from : Control Panel / Add/Remove programs - any removal should be done in Safe Mode as this stops the security drivers loading.

If this failed to remove it you could try the program link below - this has a free trial period and it will remove any program you may have.

Happy McAfee ditching

You wont like this answer but it is true. I had serious difficulties when I used McAfee anti virus. I tried everything that some of the answers here suggest you do. In the end, I had to ditch my computer as I could no longer access any programmes. To access the windows a message would come on the screen---press any button to continue. It was hell. When I went into reg-edit, I was told that a firewl had affected my windows and hence, I had to replace my computer. Mc Afee refunded me the fee I paid, but denied their product had affected my computer. I wish you luck.

Hi,
You shouldnt be having any problems removing it, if you are doing it properly - from add remove programs in control panel.

If this is a pirated or downloaded version of mcafee, (which a lot are !) then it could have been programmed by a hacker to make it impossible to remove, without reinstalling windows.

Start, run, regedit

Search for all instances of Mcafee and delete the entries. You may also want to look for a Registry cleaning tool to get it all out of there.
