If a person was 'egged' in the face what action can be taken please? Witnesses would be the perpetrators friends and the victam's girlfriend.

Technically speaking the person would not be liable for assault. Assault is the placement of another in fear or apprehension of an immediate battery.
The person who threw the egg is liable for battery. However, unless you have an injury and damages, your cause of action would typically fail.
