this would be considered assault and battery and can be prosecutable. The victim needs to provide a police report, and witnesses will need to make statements. The victim can press charges.

Legally, you may have a case if you were injured by the egg(s) and if one or more of the witnesses will testify in court against the person who threw the egg(s). You could file a civil suit against the person and sue him/her for damages (physical or emotional). If too much time has passed since this incident, you may not have much of a case.

Technically, it could be considered an aggravated assault. Aggravated by the fact that the perp used a weapon (the egg) to inflict harm on another.
If someone actually got hurt, contact the local police and file a report.

They do not stand much chance of prosectuting the guilty person if all the witnesses are closely related to the victim and there is no other evidence except for their words.

Report it. Then you can do as you please until they take action. Maybe kiss the perpetrator's GF just to spike him up.

as long as you can get a statement signed by one of the witnesses you can have him charged with assault, provided you have a viable witness.
