It depends.

Coffee ground are acidic. As a result they will actually kill some plants.

It depends on whether the plant like acidic soil, if so, they are a good additive to other fertilizers, but shouldnt be used alone.

If it is a plant that does not like acidic soil, it will die of you use coffee grounds.

Not coffee so much as coffee grounds. Lightly dig into the soil around your plants or add to compost. Plants like coffee grounds because of the high nitrogen content. This is a great way to recycle used coffee grounds rather than just throw them away.

I use the grounds on my gardenia bushes and I have tons of blooms. I read about it in one of my gardening books. I tried it and I told my neighbor who didn't believe it. His Gardenia don't look nearly as good.

It is not for every plant however. I would suggest a little research for those plants that like acidic soil and high nitrogen. It could be harmful to others.
