I do alot of community service, but currently not with Alpha Kappa Alpha, inc. Should I realign my community work, to reflect my interest in AKA, Inc? I am very interested and know the basis about the organization by doing my research, My question is how do one become a member of th graduate chapter, but will the service projects I currently participate in, be enough? AKA, Inc. is in my heart, but I don't want to be severely overextended where I am not giving my best to all my commitments and proving my value to the organization.

It's good that you are active in community service, but you know the social aspect is also important. My mom, sister, and grandmother are all AKA's, and from seeing them work in the organization, it's all about WHO YOU KNOW. You need to start meeting with members of your local chapter, and make it know to them that you are interested in joining and will be a vital member of the group.
In terms of community service, I can tell you that many AKA's are NOT very active (especially the adult chapter in LOS ANGELES), but I am sure that you will be able to balance you other activity with working with the AKA's. You have to decide what kind of commitment you want to make to be an AKA. My mother and sister work on the scholarship committee, and it has left them ample time to complete outside projects, and they are both working full time jobs.

There are some organizations that do plenty of service on the graduate level. If you have to join AKA you would have to contact the local graduate chapter.
