Tax accounting, cost accounting and accounting to your wife where you go after work and how much money you spent.

The third one is the most complicated.

I am not sure if this is exactly what you are referring to but I would classify accounting into three areas.

1) Financial accounting - this deals with the process of generating and reporting income and financial conditions at a company; often for public reporting purposes but also for internal review.
2) Cost accounting - this deals with how costs are allocated at a company; this practice is more managerial and strategic in helping to determine unit costs and profitability of an item or service.
3) Tax accoutning - this deals with paying taxes (and often minimzing them) to the federal, state government.
