Coffee, caffine, and cocaine. That or they are genetically predisposed to not need sleep.
Seriously though, one of my friends is a trucker, very laid back introvert (keeps to himself) that doesn't need much sleep and just busts his butt to provide for his family. Truckers deserve a lot of respect for what they do.

Being an ex-truck driver, I can tell you that some do indeed use drugs to stay awake. Not all of us did. Many drink coffee or caffeine drinks, but are able to stay alert by getting adequate sleep when it is possible.
That is why log books were invented. So many companies were forcing drivers to work much longer than is possible. Keeping log books helped D.O.T. and others see that the drivers were not working too long and were able to drive safely.
There are still those who misuse log books, which I think is wrong. I would not because violations would go on my driving record, not the dispatchers or companies record.
I drove with a partner. We took turns driving usually seperated by 12 hours on/12 off.

I don't think they can which is why there is a limit on the number of hours they can drive.
