I have an icon from Norton that is flashing non stop on my task bar. Norton says I am not protected from the virus that spread quick, they say the name is " Peacomm " a Trojan, but I have downloaded the Symantec Updates 4 or 5 times now and it is still there, I have also done a virus scan and the thing says it is all OK, any ideas ?

This is a new virus/malware program that is being spead rapidly via email. There is information about it here, including instructions on how to remove it if you have been infected:

Good luck!

The difference between virus and spyware is becoming vague. Both are capable of slowing a computer down and creating damage. Probably the biggest difference is spyware generally cannot replicate on its own where viruses and worms can. Because it is close, most software packages are now including spyware scanning along with virus scanning. It really doesn't hurt to have a separate program to do spyware scanning since one program may perform subpar while the other may perform quite well. However, the key to a good performing machine is updated regular scans while not having too much stuff including scanners installed. Regarding a good A-V,stick to a software that can not only detect but clean threats Both ICSA labs and Westcoast labs do test for this. Though these tests are voluntary and some do not show because they did not submit or plain failed. ICSA labs has a lot fewer on this list that made the cut than Westcoast Labs. Furthermore it is ideal to have scanners that not only detect and clean all threats but do not generate false-positives. ViruseBulletin site compiles this and previous sessions. You can then get an idea how stable a software is based on how passed and failed sessions. I've used AVG before, but because it has failed more sessions than it has passed. I'm staying clear until it stabilizes. Below are some links to these sites and some free antivirus and spyware scanners

Same problem - I have just called a friend who said to disable NAV for 5 mins - close down PC - Re-open and then inable NAV it will then update - Mine still shows as threats but not been attacked in the last 25 mins (previously this was 68 times in 10 minutes)

I have also called Symantec (who tried to sell me updates at £47.00!!)

Friend coming round to take a look on Wednesday if he fix's I will let you know how.

Suggest you follow the removal instructions on this link(Symantec).
This will include booting into safe mode/switch off system restore and possible regedit.
Peacomm is usually passed on through email attachments so you will probably have to delete any saved email atachments.
Happy Hunting
