Of course not. Though I am agnostic, I go the to local Methodist youth group for the community there and the service projects they do and I can fairly say that while some people are homophobic and close minded, the majority are kind and caring people that think loving everyone is more important than anything else. Just like you wouldn't want someone to say that all homosexuals are perverted and overtly sexual, it isn't fair to think that all religious people are close minded. You just have to judge people by themselves and their actions and not by whatever group they're put in.

To answer this, we'd have to know the amount of religious people in the world to the nearest thousand and then survey a good random sample. Since no one here is really going to be doing that, then all we're left with is our personal experience, the people in our immediate circles and so on. So, if you want to know about my circle, yes, most religious people (even the ones that claim not to be religious) are homophobic and close-minded.

I'm religious. Not a big churchgoer but a follower of Jesus Christ all the same. I will read and listen to anything he has to say, and I strive to understand his words, life, and sacrifice better as I get older.

All the same, I don't hate or fear homosexuals. I think they should be treated with dignity and understanding just like everyone else that God created. I'm pretty sure that most gays and lesbians didn't choose their orientation ... I'm straight, but I never had to choose to be. I just realized early on that I was attracted to girls ... lucky me, but I don't think that makes me better or more righteous than anyone else.

People that hate others and use their religion for an excuse have gone so far from the teachings of Jesus Christ that they barely count as Christians anymore.

Not at all. I know of several people that are very religious, even clerics, and they are now where near being homophobes. In fact, they are either neutral or open. Mostly open.

No I don't think that all religious people are homophobic. If we make this blanket assumption about religious people, wouldn't we be falling into the same trap as those homophobes who accuse all gays of being deviant, nymphomaniacal child molesters?

Zealots and Right Wingers are evil and therefore homophobic and hateful. True followers of God are understanding and loving and accept the fact that they have no corner on the market of being perfect or godlike, thus non-judgemental.

no. Theres at least one christian denomination that isn't against homosexuality, then individual priests inside other denomonations may support it. And the only a few overly religious people are homophobic.

No, what people do in the privacy of their own homes is their own business and has no direct affect on me. I will not judge but all I ask is don't force the lifestyle down my throat in the same manner as you don't want me forcing my lifestyle on you.
I hate being stereotyped and lumped together with others just because I may share some similar philosophies.
