You do need to report this to your doctor. Have you been sick? Your baby needs nutrients, so if you can't keep anything down the doctor may prescribe you something for nasea.

IF you are feeling sick, it's perfectly normal, but still something you should ask the doctor about. Losing that much weight might be because you can't eat from feeling sick, in which case your doctor might want to prescribe soemthing to help with the nausea. But it could also be a sign of something else being wrong which is why you have to bring it up to the doc. I lost a good amount of weight in the beginning of my pregnancy and still haven't gained it all back (at 33 weeks), but as long as I am trying to eat and get all the nutrients that me and the baby need, my doctor is not too concerned. Remember to stay hydrated, and make sure that what you do eat really counts as far as being healthy for you.

Sometimes women lose weight early in pregnancy because of nausea or general loss of appetite. But you need to see a doctor and begin eating a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and especially folic acid. You'll also need to start gaining a certain number of pounds each month, usually about 2 to 4 pounds during the first trimester and 3 to 4 pounds per month for the second and third trimesters. Congratulations!

Sometimes if you are in your first trimester because of morning sickness and such you will lose a bit of weight. If you are very concerned talk to your doctor. Some people lose weight during the beginning. In fact I lost 15 pounds and was very worried. I talked to my doctor first thing. As long as your doctor doesn't seem concerned I wouldn't be, but it wouldn't hurt to ask them if you are concerned. There is nothing wrong with going to a doctor if you are concerned for your child. *LOL* I think I call them more often than not if it is a major concern for me. It might be more of a worry if you are past your first trimester.
12 weeks and 1 day pregnant.

If you are in your first trimester then no. Many woman loose a lot of weight from morning sickness at that time. The baby still uses a yolk sac for the first 12 weeks until the placenta is fully formed, so they are set for a while in reference to what you are eating. Do not try and loose weight on purpose, pregnancy is not the time. Just eat sensibly when you can and take it easy. Make sure you speak to your doctor about any weight gain concerns you have.

Weight loss, like many things, is all relative... if a 250lb woman loses 10lbs in a month, it's of course not as dangerous as a 100lb woman losing that much. Things like water weight, diet/activity changes, etc all add to fluctuations in weight.
I would most certainly check with your doctor as soon as possible, even if you are on the "more robust" side of things... you can never be too careful with your baby's health - and you'd rather look back and say "wow was I overprotective" than "why didn't I get checked out?!".
Either way - warmest wishes to you and the baby for a happy, healthy pregnancy!

It is common to lose some weight in the first trimester because of nausea and vomiting, 10 lbs seems like alot though. I would let your OB or midwife know. Try eating crackers in the morning w/ flavored seltzer water. Good idea to keep some in a ziplock on the nightstand. Good luck

I lost 2 pounds and thought my doctor was going to kill me! How the heck did you lose 10? Have you consulted your doctor? You should not be losing that much weight.

To the contrary, I lost 15 lbs. in my first month of pregnancy. My doctor(s) told me that's actually common in the first few months of pregnancy. However, I wouldn't take anyone's word for it. Set up an appt. and get checked anyway

I'm at the end of my second pregnancy and the exact same thing happened to me at the beginning of my pregnancy, when I was about 3 months. I was totally freaking out, but my doctor assured me that it was ok. He said that lossing alot of wait at the beginning is normal and that everything looked fine with the baby. So talk to your dr, and express your concerns. I'm sure that everything is ok with you and your baby.
