The individual. Period. The person who will best represent my views and ideals.

You vote for an individual because even though someone is representing a party they still have their own ideas and ways of doing things.
I believe parties distract people from what needs to be done and who is the right person to do it.

Everybody votes for the party, even if they don't admit it. Yes, they say they will cross party line if the right candidate arises, but let's be serious: it'd have to be someone from one party running as the other for this to happen.

The lucky thing about American politics is that there are many different types of people in each party, and there's guaranteed to be someone who will fit your political views. So basically, you vote for the individual WITHIN the party he/she supports.

While there are general exceptions to this, they are few and far between.

I vote for individuals in different parties. But I will never again vote for a Republican.

Which party the individual belongs to, and therefore who he or she will vote for as party leadership, are important factors.

The party leadership vote - deciding who runs Congress and every committee - may well be the most important vote a senator or congressman casts!

Individual. I think voting for a party, no matter who the person is, is foolish.

The person or the issue. I'm a little bit of a free spirit when it comes to some subjects and I'm by the books on others so i guess i vote by subject!
