You have to separate the concept of a platform from bickering. Each party makes certain statements about what they plan to do if they are elected. The current 100 hours of legislation for example was spelled out ahead of the elections in November, so the Republicans can hardly object if the Democrats carry out the mandate they were given by the American people in that election.

Bickering - pointless arguing - is an ugly and unnecessary part of the parliamentary process. I certainly hope that will reduce, but I don't expect either side to surrender its position on its own platform.

It is a matter of respect. My conservative Republican father and my liberal Democratic mother have been happily married for almost 40 years now, and they work together wonderfully. They do not agree on politics, but they respect each other and can overlook political differences to appreciate the rest of what they have in common. If all of society were like that it would be a better place.

Dinner conversations are always really interesting, though! ;-)

You miss the whole point of choice. If all agree where is the choice? We are different and differences is what makes the USA wonderful place to live. you want Agreement go to commie country and agree because you have too not because you want to. I don't want to be forced to agree for no reason I like being able to choose sides.
There is no middle answer to anything
That would be watered down opinions

passion for one views is why there are 2 parties and sometimes 3

I do agree, that would be best. Both sides need to compromise esp. on their "ugly" spots: Republicans on social issues and Democrats on economic ones.
