No, the moon landings were not faked. They were very real. And you are correct, the idea that more than 250,000 Americans could keep this kind of secret is absurd. It is also absurd to think that our mortal enemies at the time, the Soviet Union, would not have squawked loud and long about any hoax landings.
We haven't gone back because:
1) The funding dried up after we'd been there
2) No compelling scientific reason to return.

It was real.
It was the last struggle of the real cold war - to see who would get there first: The US or the Soviets that drove the whole thing. It was rushed, and I believe we would never do it again at the same safety level we did it back then, due to the simple reason, that safety is more important than world politics. It wasn't that way in the 60's.
Why don't we go back - then? Is a good question , but then the return answer is - WHY? We already went there many times and found little or nothing useful, so what is the use of blowing a lot of $$ going there going to achieve.
Mindset of the millenium. $ = what benefit. Moon = $0.00 = no benefit (other than a telescope base) which we can more cheaply launch into orbit!
No, we went there, and we will go to Mars too, in the future, probably within 100 years.

Of course it was real, there's way too much evidence and too many people would have had to been in on it. Some people think that because the picture of the flag was waving and there is no atmosphere on the moon that it was all staged. What NASA did was put wires inside the flag to make it appear wavy. When the Apollo Rocket was launched from Earth there were millions of eyewitnesses of it going into space, plus all of the tiniest details of the whole journey from thousands of people, besides the astronauts. The one mission that failed, Apollo 13, why would they have had that one not make it also? If there was one country that would have had motive to say that it was a hoax it would have been the old Soviet Union, who we were in a cold war of propaganda with and they never even suggested that.

I'd type some long answer but that would be wasting my time and yours. There are the "appearances" of good arguments on the side of those who favor a hoax.
In reality the Apollo program was massive, and real. I believe it was Buzz Aldrin who put it best when he said that it would have been cheaper to actually land on the moon than to perpetrate a hoax as great as that.
So we actually did land on the moon. Six times.

The first landing was fake but even when the governments were supposed under threat to each other, they still accomplished many things back rooms with each other. The flag has already been mentioned and some they had a pole aling the top of the flag, which I find stupid to even think about. The pole used to plant into the ground would also have to go into the ground quite a ways too. Remember the surface of the moon is mostly dust on the top of its surface. Most importantly, we could already be at the moon if it happened 40 years ago. This sounds like another government ploy to help boost NASA and get our minds off the mess in the middle east.

The people who claimed that the whole thing was a hoax had pretty convincing claims however, not all of it could be true. May be THEY were the ones who fabricated the information themselves and not NASA.

It was real. I was there and watched apollo 11 take off. My father was a nuclear engineer, my brother was a mechanical engineer and I'm a structural engineer and we all had some involvement in the space program and watched every move with great interest. We're going back again soon and I'm sure there will be people who don't believe that either.

The age old question that was anwered back in 1969 when Neil armstrong first stepped onto the moons surface. Only the government conspiracy theorist and those that belive we couldn't go into outerspace and do such a thing or those that were not alive to see it, would belive such a thing.

It was such an amazing accomplishment that I hope that it was real. But though I do not know too many details on either side of the arguments, I heard something like, "There is no wwind in space and yet the American Flag is blowing in the moon-landing broadcast video."

We were in serious competition with Russia at that time. I think that if they thought we didn't make it they would have come forth to argue against our claims of getting there. Since I do not know of the Russians saying we didn't make it, it would seem that we did. I do not believe our govt could have gotten the Russian govt to take part in a conspiracy to fool the American/World populace.
