There are many difference between Australia and the US. Heres a list of a few off the top of my head. Lived 5 years in Australia. A beautiful place. As is the USA.

Australia has a Prime minister, the US a president.
Seasons are reversed.
Australia's population is under 30 million, the US is about 300 million.
There are many difference in food. Example Devon in Australia, bologna in the US. (Similiar, but not quite the same) Meat pies in Australia, pot pie's in the US (quite a bit of difference.) Chips in Australia can refer to both potato chips and french fries.
Australia no longer uses the penny, everything is rounded up or down accordingly.
Australia uses the metric system, US uses US Standard measurements.
Cost of living in Australia is very high compared to the US.
Australia has National health care, the US does not.
Australia has a unemployment system that covers everyone of age 16 as I recall (centerlink) the US has unemployment benefits which run for x number of weeks.
Australia has year round schools, The US does not.
Australia school children wear uniforms, the US for the most part has no requirement.
Australia has some of the most deadly snakes and spiders found anywhere in the world. The US has very few of these.
Australia is surrounded by coast line, the US is not.

-australia has 6 states, while the US has 50
-australia has a constitutional monarchy, whereas the U.S. has a democracy
-they have different populations
-australia's indepedence day is jan. 1st 1901 while the US. is july 4th 1776
-it's winter here when it's summer there, and vice versa
