My daughters guinea pig, is very jumppy. He wont let anyone come near him, he runs all over the cage. It worse when its time to clean out the cage. He's a good animal, not too noisy but such a little weirdo. If anyone can help me I would appericate it.

Guinea pigs do a thing called "popcorning" when they're happy - it looks like a spastic, random "pop" thing where they jump in the air and wiggle. It's cute - and it means you have a happy pig!

On the other hand, if you mean "jumpy" as in skittish, this is also pretty normal. Guinea pigs are social, but shy until they get used to their people. My advice is to be calm and gentle around him, and after a short time and some patience, he should learn to trust you and your daughter.

Good luck with the little guy :)

He sounds like he hasn't been acclimated to being handled. The only way to get over this is to handle him more. Just for a little while at first, and then longer as time goes on. Once he realizes that he is not going to be hurt by that big person, he will allow the handling.

I used to have guinea pigs that were allowed free run of my room every afternoon when I got home from school. I would place their cage on the floor, and take the wire mesh top off. It allowed them to go back and forth at will. But my guys were used to being picked up and played with, and would even seek me out on my bed for playtime.

If you are not used to guinea pigs but you are noticing she is tender in the stomach then I think it is pretty certain she has some pain. They hide it as best they can but if you touch them in a sore place they will then squeak. You need to get her to a vet without delay as not eating and drinking counts as an emergency even without the pain symptoms. If you have some syringes (not needles obv) then feed her some water using those. Also try and feed her some food the same way- you can mash up her pellets with water or if it is a dry food mix food try to liquidize her vegetables instead. It is really crucial to keep their systems moving with food passing thru. But the main thing is get her medical help without delay. You are going to have to do this anyway with those symptoms and the sooner you do it the best chance she has.

Do you have a few really exhausting exercisers in his cage?

They do tend to be a little high strung. My daughter had one for awhile and I totally got tired of all of the cage cleaning that had to be done and I found him a home elsewhere..... Don't miss him a bit....
