V-4, 2200 Engine. Has recently lost power, smells like raw gas as if the gas is not being burned properly.When stopped the RPM wil go up and down slightly from 500-1000. Told not likely to be the timming belt, compression was good, changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, oil w/filter but problem continues. Please help.

I agree with CWebb, a clogged cat can cause what you're describing. If you can, try disconnecting the exhause before the catalytic converter, just for a test (car will be very noisy). If the power comes back, I would replace it.

By the way, there are no V-4 cars in the US, you have an inline 4.
