Free speech is worth preservation. Political correctness is another form of cowardess. IMHO Free speech must be protected, however it must be tempered with respect for the dignity of others Malicious and slanderous comments toward others may be protected as free speech, but demonstrate that the speaker has little or no self respect, as by engaging in slanderous or malicious speech, the speaker lowers themself to the level to which they would assign the target of their verbal outbursts. Comments made out of political correctness are hollow, and seldom contribute to a discussion.

Free speech, of course. But, this entails something that many people, in my opinion, seem to disregard. What they disregard is the fact that, as someone exercising free speech, they are the ones responsible for the things that they say. So, while I am for every person to speak their mind freely, one might wish to choose their words carefully. In the scope of free speach versus political correctness, if, for a very cliche example, you voice your opinion about 'african americans', or 'muslims', and you use the 'wrong' word, or 'wrong' stereo type, I will not say that you did not have the right to believe or say those things. Neither will I say that you didn't deserve any ill affects as a result of what you said, simply because you have the right to say it. Free speech, or the idea of it, can easily be abused. (also see libel, slander, deformation of character)
Also, if you think you can walk up to someone and say whatever you feel like, and not have to worry about being sued, then I think you should also have the right to beat the crap out of those kind of jerks. No guns or killings, just a good, sound beating. Maybe you'd think about opening yer stupid mouth, to share yer dumb opinion that no one cares about anyway, if you had a few teeth missing.

Free speech and political correctness are not directly opposed. Political correctness, for all of its silliness, is just a way to not offend others with derogatory terms. Over the years, it has expanded into general political views, but sticking to those is only for people who want to be like everyone else....
Freedom of speech is always good as long as you use it responsibly.

I support free speech. As Americans, we are guaranteed freedom of speech by our Constitution. We are able to speak our mind and express our opinions about what is going on around us. I also support the golden rule which says to "Do unto others what you would have them do unto you." Therefore, if I don't want people to offend me with their words, for instance, then I will also be careful about how I talk to others. I would not want to upset them unnecessarily. It is important, also, to try to use titles and labels that do not insult people. For example, if I am going to ask a person in the store for some Brazil nuts, I won't ask for them by the name that I was told that they were called when I was younger, because now I know that that particular name might offend the person I am asking or it might make them think less of me. Free speech is about standing up for your rights in as educated a way as possible. It is important to make yourself heard. If something is so important to a person that he feels compelled to action, he should speak out and turn that passion into a correct action toward the end that he has envisioned. Hopefully, it will be a lawful action and a correct end.

Free speech (used responsibly, ideally) a hundred times over. Political Correctness is ridiculous. If we all simply respected each other, would we even need political correctness?

Free Speech! Remember, 30 years ago it was "politically corect" to give a man a job over a woman regardless of qualifications because it was widely accepted. 20 years ago, it was politically correct not to recognise gay partners. 10 years ago, it was politically correct to smoke in most public buildings. Good, Bad or Indifferent, what is politically correct tomorrow depends on who uses their free speech to bring attention and agenda to a cause, and what we as a culture do about it!

I'm not much for political correctness, so I'll take Free speech, even though it gets overdone at times.
