You know only 46 percent of people actually file taxes in the US. This is terrible and out of that 46 percent there is alot of people that cheat. If we accepted the fair tax law it would be much easier. I believe it's only 1% sales tax added, correct me if i'm wrong, that is pennies on any transactions made. Then everyone would be paying taxes!!

They don't support it because they don't think it's "fair"

OMG! What would happen to the IRS? Just think of all those employees out of a job! No, we can't have that. Then what about all those poor, poor people who can no longer avoid paying taxes because of all the tax shelters and the cheating they do on their taxes. No, we really can't have that. Then what about the power congress holds over the people? How could they possibly tell someone that they could get a tax break if they just do things their way? Or even better, how could they slip a new tax in if everybod just pays a fair sales tax?

Nope, the politicians like the power they have over your money and will never give it up.

Because a majority of the people are ignorant. You can tell because of how most of the other answerer gave stupid responses that have hold no truth about the fair tax. The truth is the fair tax is a great idea and people need to realize this and become educated about it so it can be passed in congress. To the person who said it is like VAT taxation you are completely wrong, it is not at all like it.

Maybe if they actually gave it media attention and tried to inform the public it would give us a chance to support the legislation. Anyways, from what I have heard it does not sound very good. It looks more like a VAT - value added tax which tends to punish lower income people.

Most Americans don't know anything about it. I have decided not to vote for any candidate that does not support it. I also try to educate anyone I can. I think it is a great idea.
