I was over at Best Buy this past Sunday. I casually heard they might be getting some Wii's in. I was in the area so I went to check it out. Come to find out the only people to get a Wii were ones who already had a ticket? What is up with these tickets and how do you get one?

Why can't they just sell the Wii's on a first come first serve basis instead of this ticket nonsense. And if they are using this ticket method, why don't that advertise it more to make it clearer to the public? I had no idea you needed a ticket to get one.

I got my wii last Sunday too at best buy and yes, it was through a ticket, to get one I just went to the video game section and told them I needed one and they gave me a ticket and asked me to claim my wii in customer service, they were doing so in order people don't get mad and attack others for getting a system.
But the tickets were gone in the first 5 minutes the store was opened.
They didn't advertise it, because they had only a few of them and there were not enough to cover the demand. :)

I would say that best buy sold pre-order tickets to a certain number of people (let's just say 300 at that store) but they only got 100 Wii's. That leaves 200 people who have already given the store some money and the promise that they will buy a Wii. So really, the good thing to do is to get the Wiis to the people who have already given them money and a promise to buy a Wii.

I could also be wrong, but that's what it seems like.

Supply and Demand

Managing Customer Expectations

The first term you are probably familiar with. The second may be new. The idea is that you create a mystique about the new "game system" (in this case) and create the idea that there is such a low supply coupled with high demand. This causes a high price that remains constant for as long as possible.

If you just have to have one right away, go to your favorite retailer and get the next available ticket.

whatsup with it is that you have to wait in the cold all night to get a ticket. deal with it. they don't advertise to make it to the public because they realize that people like you are not going to wait out all night so just get over yourself and realize that if you're not a hardcore gamer or someone looking to stay out all night, then stop whining and go on ebay and get ripped off because in the land of supply and demand, you're gonna feel the pain.
