On your iPod, scroll to the "Settings" menu. Once you are there, scroll to "Volume Limit" and click it. From there you can adjust what the maximum volume is on your iPod. I'm betting yours i turned way down.

no longer something to do with the ipod, its all to do with the headphones.. under no circumstances use the ipod headphones as they're poor, in case you purchase a good pair of headphones the sound will be a lot more suitable. maximum headphones sound high quality bypass as a lot as round ninety 8 decibles..thats no longer very good.look on the packaging for headphones that bypass above 112 decibles and they are going to be good.I had a pair of SENNHEISER headphones that were 114 decibles and they were astounding !! I couldnt have the ipod above 0.5 volume.. As i say, its all about the headphones, no longer the ipod !!!

you can use your computer speakers or try the argos catalogue for the portable kind especially for iPods. They have a good range. They are expensive, around €80 but are good they get as low as €29.99 for cheap ones but are still ok.

I think there are some special speakers for the iPod... if it doesn't work either, take your iPod to where you purchased it and ask them to help you with the issue.

it might be the apple firmware. they restrict their volume settings.
if you flash the firmware you can make it louder.
have you also considered it might be your ears and not the ipod.
consider having your ears syringed or your hearing tested.
