They are not violent. It's called slap-stick comedy.

I think the Tom and Jerry shows are so violent because the people who created Tom and Jerry probably thought that kids laugh at cartoon violence (though, probably children 8 years and older are probably bored with it by now).

Because when the show started, there were not as many opinions on television programs. It was more acceptable back then to have "violent" cartoons because they were "just cartoons".

Because it was funny and people back then didn't worry quite as much about kids goin nuts from watching things on tv like they do now.

They seem to me to be violent now that I am an adult.I didn't notice that when I was a child.

It's called slapstick humor, and it makes people laugh. Look at the Three Stooges sometime. They were all about slapstick.

It was funny. We knew not to do the things they did, because it would hurt! We had actual parents back then.
