If nighttime sleep isn't affected, let her sleep. Certainly you have a ton of stuff you could get done around the house! I wish my baby would sleep so I could get some stuff done!

Doctors say that they should only sleep for at the most 3 hours and then be woke up. My daughter is 2 years old well almost 2 years old. She use to do the 6 1 hour naps like you are talking about then around a year old she went to 2 naps for about an hour or two one in the late morning and one in the evening. Now she takes one nap a day. She usually wakes up around 8 or 9 in the morning now goes down for her nap around 1 or 2 in the afternoon sleeps for a couple of hours and then goes to bed around 8 or 9 at night.

You can wean her into a sleeping less schedule by waking her a little earlier or making her stay up for a little longer to the point of the adjustment that you desire. But honestly, she's only 8 months old and her sleeping patterns is going to change at least two of three more times in the next year. Let sleeping babies lye may be the answer for you until you reach a place that it's hard for you to have consistancy. But yes it sounds like you got it pretty good now. Just make sure you don't interrupt her sleep tp much, becasue she will then get sleep deprived and be a totall mess for you. Good luck on this.

Both of my daughters were doing 2 naps a day at 2-4.5 hours each by 8 months, and still sleeping ~10-12 hours at night. I'd try just letting her sleep as long as she wants and see if it affects her night sleeping, if it doesn't she may just need a little more sleep than normal. What about your house temperature? If it's really warm they'll tend to sleep more also. Also, my girls have always slept more in the day if they're sick or feverish (not at night though! :P )
Good luck.

I wouldn't wake her either as long as she is happy, eating well, and sleeping well at night. Why mess up a good thing?
After 3 hours I may open the door and the shades and see if the daily noise and light wake her on her own.
When you put her down for her nap is she ready to go?
And, how long is her first nap during the day?
You may want to try get rid of the morning nap as she gets older.

My personal take on this is to never wake a sleeping baby. They take the sleep that they need. Now if she is sleeping so late that its almost bedtime then you might have to put her down earlier so she can take the long nap that she wants without interferring with her bedtime.. or move the bedtime a bit later (9 pm should be the very latest though)
My son is 2 and he has phases where he naps for 4 hours too.
They specially sleep longer when they are growing. Let he sleep and enjoy the break :)

If she is sleeping 12 hrs a night and 6 or more hrs a day, I personally think you should have a pediatrician check her out. As a mother of 4 and someone in the medical field I think that's way too much for an 8 month old.

From experience, I would say 2 naps a day about 2 hours each would be normal and sleep all night long. I would think you want her to be awake during the day so she can develop normally such as sitting up, crawling, etc. I understand what you are saying about paying your dues but you are the parent and it is up to you to teach her and help her develop. Take a nap with her if you are tired and you'll have more ambition later on in the day.

My son did the same thing. I felt that if it wasn't interfereing with the nighttime sleep I let him sleep. My son was sleeping through the night at 2-1/2 weeks old. So he still slept through the nioght if he had a 3 hour nap. Its perfectly natural for some children to sleep more than others.

My first two daughters were very good sleepers as well...taking 4 hour naps and sleeping 12 hours at night from a very young age. My motto "never, ever wake a sleeping baby" When they have had enough rest they will wake. If not you may wake them too soon causing them to be quite cranky.

Since she is 8 months and doesn't need to feed often like a newborn, I'd say let her go for it. Get some laundry done or take a nap yourself! I have heard it said that you need to wake them by about 4pm or they won't sleep well at night. 4-4:30 seems to hold true for my daughter.
