There are a million ways to trick your eye.

Many involve lenses or mirrors of some sort to create an image of something that isn't there or hide something that is.

Others involve distracting your eye somehow.

Many involve tweaking the algorithms in your brain that interpret what you see--straight lines can be made to appear bent. one circle can appear bigger than another depending on what it's surrounded by. Two color chips can appear different depending on what's around them.

Others involve physically fooling your eyeball (like when you burn an image into your vision by staring at it and then look at a white wall)

Magicians use all these and many more that they don't tell

There are many good books on that subject available through your local library. They will do a much better job of answering that question than anybody on the Internet. They will also have illustrations and 'one picture is worth a thousand words'.
