... then what do you think defines the genre, and who are some of your favorite artists?

I didn't mean as in "any music from America", I meant the genre "Americana" that refers to folk and blues and roots-rock and alt-country and stuff like that.

I'm assuming you are talking about "roots" music, like bluegrass, and blues. I like it, but I don't listen to it all the time. As for favorite artists, probably some local bands that you have probably never heard of. The Dewaynn Brothers-bluegrass Moreland and Arbuckle-Blues

I think "Americana" is music that could have been heard on AM radio in the 1970s (but better!)
My favorite Americana band is Hem -- Rabbit Songs is a fantastic album.
"The Fire Thief" and "Carry Me Home" are my two fave songs.

Well I actually I think where you live has a lot to do with the type of music you listen too. When I lived in Florida Black Oak Arkansas and Molly Hatchet is very popular there. Now that I live in Texas it seem that country reigns. I listen to just about any type of music.

well waterboy, there are many genres and i really don't understand them all myslef, like what is the difference between alternative rock and rock? who knows i onece downloaded a song who's genre was industrial jungle pu**y punk... ok some good bands... 30 seconds to mars, INCUBUS, SAOSIN, thursday, the red jumpsuite apparatus, tool, TAKING BACK SUNDAY, sublime, the killers, stone sour, the used, weezer, audioslave, blink 182, angels and airwaves, bullet for my valentine, modest mouse , deadsy (may be brittish), EVERLAST, santana, jimi hendrix, pink floyd, led zeppelin, finch, beck, green day, kansas, nirvana, OASIS, joe cocker, r.e.m, red hot chilipeppers, you can listen to all of these bands at http://www.napster.com you may have to register... but its free

i do. what do i think 'defines' the genre? umm i think its the way they sing and their image. I have many favorite artists, The Classic Crime, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Hit the lights, Quietdrive, My Chemical romance, Rise against, 30 seconds to mars, paramore, head automatica, plain white t's, hellogoodbye, a change of pace, cartel, summer obsession, houston calls, ect. hope that helped?

american country music is good. i like it. i don't have a fave singer, all country songs are cool.
