I will enroll in college soon and I want to know which course I should take to become an advertising executive later in life. Which degree is closer? a bachelors in graphic design, or a bachelors in visual communications?

if you want to be an advertising executive and focus on selling ad space then you really want to focus on the business aspect of the advertising industry. i have my bachelors in advertising and have been selling ad space for 7 years and to be honest half of the people i work with do not have a college degree, however it is important to have a degree to get in the door at any company. if you are looking for a career in art direction at an ad agency then i would recommend getting a degree in visual arts, or graphic design. it is a cut throat industry so make sure that your degree can be used in multiple facets so that you are not pigeon holed into one occupation. good luck.

Graphic Design and Advertising are usually grouped under visual communications. At my university there's Visual Communications/Graphic Design and Visual Communications/Advertising majors, though only like 3 or 4 courses are actually different.
