I have a 1996 Land Rover, the hood needs to be replaced, however I do not have the money to replace the hood until one month from now, the hood is now tied to down, but I scare to be drinving the car around like that, can I just have the hood taken off? Will this affect the car?

In theory driving without the hood should not cause any major problems, for your car. Your only problem is that in some states it's illegal to drive without a hood.

Interesting question. Technically it is probably possible to drive it, but the law may not permit it. And rain would be a big problem. Keeping the hood tied down is probably best for now but even that has potential legal problems--like if it flies off and hurts somebody or causes a wreck you could be looking at astronomical liability problems. Don't you know anybody who could do a quick fix temporary job to keep the hood on properly until you can get it replaced? It really might be worth it to you to take it in to a garage, or somebody you trust, to have something done because it is a dangerous situation, physically and legally. Good luck!

Yes you can, your biggest worry would be kids or vandals that think it might be funny to mess with the car but if you have covered/off street parking you should be ok. Even rain really won't be a big problem as long as the car is running, the hot engine will almost instantly evaporate any water that it comes in contact with but I would be careful to park it under cover if it does rain because if allowed to build up with the engine off it can interfere with the electrical systems.

One other thing with the hood off your car could throw a check engine light at you from too much airflow through the engine bay, i've seen this happen on a few different makes. But it's nothing to worry about, it's mostly just telling you "hey your hood is missing or damaged" which you know.

And also as mentioned it could be illegal to drive without a hood in your state, check your local laws first.

Most likely. The hood is meant to protect the engine, if you were to get in an accident, there's a much higher risk for flying car parts. Not even joking...

Well yes it may affect the Car the hood is made to protect components of your motor from not gettin to wet. If your hood is off your car they will get Soaked. put your hood back on your car and secure it down some how. latch the front of the hood in and secure the back.

Take it off! The risk of it popping up is too scary to envision. Imagine driving blind with broken glass stuck to your face ,to get an idea of the danger, with kids in the car. This vehicle was designed to forde rivers and so the hood is nothing more than tinsel decoration.Yes vandels can wreak havick but that is minor compared to other scenerios.

May affect it if it rains, mechanically no problem besides that.

Local authorities may frown on it, check local laws too.

Best bet is to tie it down really good. If it is bent try to straiten it down enough to click into first part of latch. and put extra safely ties on it.

Defiantly don't want it to hit the windshield and cause more damage and expense or create an unsafe driving experience.

no,it won, affect the car but it will affect the state boy if he sees you with the hood off and he will then affect your ability to pay for a new hood.

no it wont do anything but affect the areo dynamics of the car but i wouldnt worry about that. your main problem is someone might go playing with your engine and parts around it. so i would say if possible leave it tied down, if you tie it well it wont move

No, it should not hurt anything. But, some states may not allow it. I think you could get a ticket.
