Sure enough, Brian lara is the best batsman of the current era.
the prime contenders for the rank are sachin and Ricky ponting.
Sachin is clearly past his prime , and when it comes to ponting ,his play is all physical and lacks the charm of tendulkar and lara's classy game.
lara seems to have gained a new life and as rahul dravid puts it
" you can watch in awe what he does to the ball but never dare to try "
lara is a wizard.

Using any statistics and any formula, Bradman was the greatest batsman of all time. No-one else has come close. You must also remember that Bradman had a huge gap in the middle of his career while some international nastiness was going on. Had he been able to play during the war years, who knows what he would have achieved.

One can not compair players because they are playing as a team so wining in cricket requires a team effort. And the time difference, like Lara and Bradman can not be compaired since time of Bradman was not that compitative like Lara, now a days people analyse every player ball to ball, try to find his weakness, strength and play against such player according to preplaned data analysis, that was not there at the time of Bradman, but one should remember that Bradman has played without much protective equipments, that time there was no provision of covering the wicket (leading to dangerous bounce in the pitch).
Your question is regarding greatness of Lara, no doubt he is one of the talented cricket player and treat to watch while making shotmaking and run scoring simple, his kind of play and his stat proves his greatness, but if are considering greatest there are are plenty to chalange Lara, like Sachin Tendulkar, Ponting, Rahul Drawid, Kallis, Mohmood yousif in the current players and Viv Richirds, Sobers, Sunil Gaveskar in the past.

Ricky Ponting is now averaging a shade under 60, and is now a better bat than Lara.
Lara's 272 years ago at the SCG was the single best innings I have ever seen, but take away his 375 and 401 against pathetic England attacks and his average comes down a smidge.
Unfortunately, we've never seen Bradman in action either.
