If Big Brother can take action against racist and homophobic comments why can't Yahoo Answers take action against some of the hateful comments and questions on Yahoo Answers?

I've never seen so much bigotry as I see here on Answers.

What do you think?
(Come on, shout me down!)

I think they try, in their own way and some of the comments are meant to be a joke, albeit in poor taste

Big Brother is apparently watched regularly by millions of people, Yahoo answers is looked at by considerably less people, in other words if you type something that offends others not many people will notice.

Anyway this web site asks for answers and as such encourages oppinions. Some oppinions are wrong some are right, depends if they agree with me or not.

Another thing is at least everyone using this site has got the brain to use a computer and most of those watching BB have become vegetables.

Because the fact is, the site administrators do not read any of the posts, even those which are reported as being offensive.

Just to prove that no-one reads them, I had two of my answers removed for being insulting or for being slurs when they were in fact no way offensive at all. In the first one, the asker was an illegal immigrant (he said that!) who was asking for a job, and I told him that he would find it very difficult to get a job because employers will not hire people who are here illegally because of the repercussions. THAT IS A FACT, NOT AN INSULT. I don't remember what the second one was but it was about the whole Jade and Shilpa thing and was in no way offensive - everyone has their own view on this issue and I can understand that some people may have disagreed with me, but my answer could certainly not be construed as offensive.

What really gets me is the people who post the really hateful questions relating to religion. Often the question itself is phrased as an insult. I have no issue with sharing information about my religion if people want to know, but why would I want to post it on a site for someone to openly ridicule?

I totally agree with you. Some of the comments on here are just so rude! This website was created for users to get their questions answered. Not for immature brats to insult anyone and everyone. Why can't we all just get along!? We're all equal. Most of us don't even know each other!! Even though some of these coments can be jokes, they're not needed. People want reasonable and helpful answers for their questions. Otherwise, they wouldn't post the questions! Don't you agree!?

Big brother have done knothing to prevent what has gone on in that house it is the public who have complained about it and they have been forced to reassess the situation whilst dragging their feet and giving us another few days of rubbish.
On here it is once again up to the public us who use it to report anything bad and yahoo send them a violation notice.
I would not dream of shouting you down when you ask a proper question unlike some we see.

In some cases (and fortunately these are in the minority) it's like trying to stop the tide. Better to rise above it - still report it as abuse mind you!

If you have or know of any children affected by racism, I came across the website below [ref 1] which might be of interest. I would recommend the look at the page entitled 'How to put a stop to racist abuse' [ref 2].

Never give up!

I don't know how bad it is because I am fairly new to this. However, I have been known to report abusive answers and questions. I think that's the best form of action you can take. If there are other ways I surely would appreciate knowing it.

There really isn't any want for that. i have merely clicked on the yankee flag and brought myself onto their website - I then clicked the container to the left declaring 'united states Questions in user-friendly words' and that become it. Any questions or solutions might want to be for the united states in user-friendly words. i do not see why those human beings that flow round to diverse internet sites, won't be able to double verify that we are on the positioning we want contained in the first position. of direction i have come decrease back to the united kingdom website now. that's in order that user-friendly.

I a not a racist or a homophobic. Kids read these pages and if Yahoo is not taking you seriously don't be so common & crude in your questions. Get a life!

I don't think BB have taken any action, if they did they would be shown in a bad light and they don't want to be discredited.
I think they let things get out of control in the name of sensationalism.
We are all too busy trying to be PC that we are forgetting the true meaning of freedom of speech and liberalism. We are a country of many cultures, at the expense of our own culture and identity.

I would personally be all for it!

Trouble is most the bigots and racists on here, tend also to be cowards, who hide behind false ids etc., And so the only thing one can do is totally ignore them, normally they are also thick and childish so wander off to find some one else to play with.

May your god go with you.
