Personally, I hate Norton. Most of their programs are AWFUL. To get a good virus scan, use TrendMicro. You can find it by typing "Trend Micro Online virus scan" into a search and it will pop up. Scan and then try and remove it, or go into Safe Mode and try to remove it -- to get to safe mode press F10 at the reboot of your computer, before the logo appears.

Try booting into Safe Mode and scanning from the CD first before installing. To completely remove older versions of Norton, use Symantec's Norton Removal Tool:

you may have yet another anti virus or an older version of the Norton on your device. you want to uninstall both and reinstall the recent norton. ASAP. Your norton is seeing the former virus threat-free practices and reading it as a perilous disease. that is an argument of a few days and your computing gadget will isolate itself and close down. I did this to myself. you're exhibiting a similar indications. artwork quick, or pay the restoration guy. i ended up with Avast through Lavasoft. it truly works more suitable and that is loose for extremely own use. I exceedingly propose it. I no longer have hardship with virus, computer virus or crashing. that is so cool!

Most likely you have a virus. They tend to prevent you from making changes to a current AV setup. Download AVG from grisoft.com (do a search on their site for "free" to get a free version). Save it to your desktop, then reboot in SAFE MODE. Try uninstalling your Symantec from there, and then install AVG.

Nortons is a waste of time.

Download a free Antivirus like Avast! Home Edition link can be found below try it and see how you go.

If it fails the virus you have will not allow any antivirus to be installed so reinstalling Windows is the only way.
