I have to echo the advice of a couple other answerers. You have to practice, practice, practice.

Some people (myself included) do not have a natural affinity for singing. There are those lucky ones who have great ears, great vocal skills, and a talent for hitting all the right notes. If you are one of those, then congratulations. Just keep practicing and you'll get even better.

If not and you're like me, you just have to keep at it. The breathing, posture, and mechanics of sound production can all be learned, but definitely take time. When I first started, I made huge progress pretty quickly, but got to the point where I just couldn't get any better. Learning to breathe better made a difference, but I am still limited to my natural range and abilities, which aren't that great.

I'll never sing for the Metropolitan Opera, but I was able to do fairly well in community theater. Learn where your natural limits are, and practice at that limit and you'll become the best you can be.

Well, it takes a long time for a voice to train. I'm not sure how long you have been taking lessons. There is so much to learn, standing (posture), breath control, what muscles to use etc... I have been training for almost 10 years (the Classical Italian Method) The Voice is a very hard instrument to learn. Its not like a piano or a trumpet, as to were you know what the sound will be when you play them. Just stick with it and practice!! Make sure you have an instructor with a lot of experience. I'm not sure how old you are but remember that your voice won't totally develop until your around 30yrs old. I hope this will help you. Good Luck!

You can always practice singing at home or somewhere you feel comfortable at. It's also nice to have someone (or a small audience) listen to you while you practice (like a close friend, another singer, etc.). Practicing never hurts anybody. Oh, and one of the most inportant things that I learned in singing is to always breathe first. make sure you don't forget to practice your breathing. I hope this is helpful to you and good luck getting into theatre.^^

Make sure you study carefully not just the art of singing in itself, but also the mechanics of it, such as breathing, positioning, etc. Some important mechanics include keeping the larnyx down, breathing down and out with the diaphragm, and singing with your speaking voice, along with good posture. Keep studying and good luck.

If lessons are not helping, I don't know what will. If your tutor is not a professional, you should get one who is. But maybe you're not a natural singer. I'm sorry to say that, but some people simply aren't.

It takes many, many years of vocal study to sing well.

talent is a good thing to have. it doesn't matter how much training you take...if you don't have a natural talent, i'm sorry to tell you, but you're not going to be in theatre.
