the computer thing is called an e.c.u. it can be sent away for test and repair, depending on what firm you use and what repairs are made the cost should be no more than £120. So if its a good vehicle and you like it its definitely worth repairing.

Weigh up against what it will cost to replace? You say its in good condition so perhaps it is worth having it fixed..... There comes a point of course with older cars where you are just throwing good money after bad just to keep it on the road. If in your opinion you will have a good reliable car after the work then I'd get it fixed. Ask the garage or a car buff contact for their opinion.

Dont listen to the moaning a-hole, they are jeeps to me too. Lots of vacuum cleaners are made by different brands but we still call them hoovers. Same applies to jeeps (all except land rovers which are landys!). I'd get a second hand ECU and get it re-programmed. Worth very little not running but worth a few £££'s if it is!

if you love the car get a second hand "brain" for a scrap yard or the back pages of a trader and it shouldn't cost that in garage fees either there not that hard to fit .... i wouldn't scrap it just for that.

make sure it is the ecu that is at fault!!, never changed one in 14 of working on the vitara, i asume its the single point injection, check the injector wiring connector in the top of throttle body.
