my husband had a vasectomy about 2 years ago. we then didnt ever think we'd want children, now we think we might like to have at least one. what can we do to get pregnant? having a reversal costs so much but it may be our best option. i dont want a donor or fertility drugs. we want to have a natural conception. what are the chances that we could get pregnant with his vasectomy and no other protection? I dont know what to do! please give any advise you have on the matter. Thanks!

i really dont appreciate those of you who were being stupid on here. if you dont have a real answer or any knowledge on the matter then dont reply, its thatt simple. For the rest of you thanks for the info, but I already figured most of it to be so. Some of the info I entered was mis-read, Im not a complete idiot on the matter, trust me i've been doing my homework. I know that with a vasectomy no pregnacy is likely to happen, but i hear all of those people who had one and then concieved a child, so what am i supposed to think? no i havent been using any other method of protection, he just always pulls out, but lately we've been trying leaving it in if you know what I mean....one can only hope that i'd be that simple! anyways i do have an appointment to see my doc, i just wanted to know if there was anyone else out there who had the same issue or knew any thing about the matter who could give me their opinion....

If he has it reversed your chances are very good. I got pg 4 months after my ex had his reversed.

Unless you have the vasectomy reversed, you should not get pregnant. There is a chance for a spontaneous reversal, but they are rare. Fertility drugs won't do anything (with a proper vasectomy, there is a 0% chance of pregnancy) , and a donor would probably be more difficult and expensive than just having the surgery reversed. Your only other real option would be to conceive with someone else, but I don't think that's what you have in mind

If the vasectomy was successful, you can not conceive naturally without having a reversal. Why have you been using another form of protection? He is sterile if he had the surgery done. Surely the urologist explained all of this before you made the choice for the operation? A reversal can give you a chance in some cases, although many times they do not work. You may need to do IVF to get pregnant. You need to go see a doctor about your options. Good Luck

There's no nice way of saying this...it's foolish to think that you'll be able to get pregnant after your husband has had a vasectomy. My husband had one 10 years ago, after our second child was born, and we've had unprotected sex ever since. I must tell you...if the vasectomy was done correctly, and you've not gotten pregnant up until now...I wouldn't hold your breath. Even if the sex is unprotected. Your chances are pretty much nil. And, it's fairly cruel to ask him to have a reversal, and I must tell you...there aren't many doctors that will do a reversal these days. Plus, the insurance company won't cover a reversal...AND...it must be expensive out of pocket. You might as well decide right now that having a baby with your husband just isn't in the cards for you. Adoption would be your best recourse.

I'm sorry if anything I said upset you. I know how frustrated you must be. My cousin had two of her four children AFTER her husband had a vasectomy. It CAN happen. I just wouldn't hang any hopes on it. I also couldn't imagine asking my husband to go through the vasectomy reversal. Good luck to you : )

You are going to have to look into having it reversed...if it is even possible. If the vas deferins have been cut then from what I understand the chances are pretty slim. You are going to have to talk to a fertility specialist.

Reversal, that's the only way, unless you sleep with his brother. If all else fails, try adopting.
