Can I just install a second network adapter a configure it to run parallel with the other some how?

Yes.
You didn't mentioned why you wanted to do this, so I can only guess.

That is basically what is called a Gateway. One adapter can connect to the internet and the other adapter can connect to another computer.

You can network computers that way and have each computer be able to connect to the internet and be able to transfer files back and forth.


Don't go thinking it will make the internet faster.

Yes you can. Generally it depends on what you are trying to do as to whether this will accomplish anything. If you just want a way to switch between two sources or two networks, it will work by disabling one or the other.

WHAT? To connect 2 LAN cables you gotta have another LAN card which inserts a whole 'nother set of problems into the mix.

I am curious to understand why and for what purpose you would think of that?

You can put in another NIC card, but if your hoping to get 2x the performance forgetaboutit. You would put a second NIC in your PC if you want the PC to function like a router.
