Every one who gets hired in starts at min wage - after they are there for 90 days they are to be up for review - and told not to expect to get a raise in pay as no one does on the first review.

I guess minimum wage earners are treated like that because some people have the misconception that they don't command respect. Most people define themselves by the amount that they earn and unfortunately society has something to do with that. Therefore if you earn minimum wage, you are going to be looked on like less of a person.

Now isn't that shameful?

First of all, how does anyone at the company know what wage you are paid. This is not supposed to be common information.

Since people do know your wage, my guess would be that you are treated badly because of the way people perceive minimum wage workers.

I don't know about Michigan, but in Louisiana min wage workers tend to have no college education, they come from low income backgrounds, they are not generally knowledgeable about cultural activities, such as music, plays, etc. And because of these facts, people view min wage workers as uneducated, uncultured and undeserving of their respect.

This is of course a generalization.

So you see, it's just another form of discrimination. If you are really being treated badly, and you think it is because people know your wage rate, lodge a complaint with your company. They must address every complaint of discrimination. And sex and race are not the only forms of discrimination.

(also, don't ever discuss your wage with other people at your business. Not only for the above reason, but just because it's tacky and none of their business.)

Unfortunately, you'll get paid minimum wage unless your educated or have lots of experience. So the solution is go to school or work hard and show your boss that you're worth more than that.

The problem is these people that treat you badly are unhappy with themselves. You will have to learn to politely tell them you are sorry that they can not enjoy their life on a salary that is better than yours.
