planned parenthood
there should also be some free clinics for women..check the yellow pages
also, Medicaid in NY is available to pregnant women without insurance. In New York City, contact the Human Resources Administration by calling (718) 557-1399. Residents of the five boroughs of New York City may call toll free at 1-877-472-8411
and good luck!

Don't go to the ER, it is not an emergency and you'll just rack up a big bill for nothing. Call your local health department. I'm including the link for NY state health's site. Most health departments will do pregnancy tests for free (or possibly very low cost dependant on your income.) You may qualify for Medicaid while you are pregnant, depending on what your area has availible. If you don't qualify, you can generally get pre-natal care through the health department for a very low cost, possibly free.

My small town has a hospital that treats low income, and uninsured people for free. So I'm sure a big city like New York does also.
Personally I would be leery of both planned preganancy and pro life places. Both tend to have their own agendas.
Better that you go to a free clinic or hospital that would be bias-free.

Well I know from personal experience ( I also live in NY) Go to your nearest planned parenthood and explain to them that you do not have the money to afford a pregnancy test. They will give you one free of charge and your proof of pregnancy to take to the doctor. Also when and if you apply for medicaid it tends to be a hassel in this state so it might take a little longer than expected. If you are under 21 wether or not you are married they will send support referals to your parents but dont worry this is just routine.Good luck with your pregnancy!!!

first off you can't tell how far along you are with a blood test, they can give a guess based on your hormone levels but these are generally always wrong. If you have a positive result on a urine test then you need to get into see a doc to have them do a pap smear, urine test, check your weight and blood pressure, they will schedule an U/S that will determine your due date... I'm really sorry to say but if you can't afford to see the doc now, then how will you afford to see the doc monthly throughout your pregnancy? Then weekly in your last months? You need to have GBS testing, scheduled U/Ss.... my heavens! Having a baby is expensive in the USA.

I believe planned parenthood is the only free place, but be prepared to either sit and wait an extended period of time and don't expect any personal concern from the doctor and staff.

Call your local Public Health Department - they will do them free or cheap OR they can refer you to a pregnancy center that does. Also - check what your state's requirements are for maternity medicaid...if you are low income you should qualify and get all your prenatal care free.
