I guess the answer is "It depends". I would ask, "How long have you known him?", "How deep are you into the relationship", "What is his age and what are his interests?" I don't think a lot of money has to be spent to show how much you care. I think if someone is truly worthy, then a clever, well thought out gift is much better than a gift that just says "look how much I spent on you!" It puts the person in an awkward position of feeling almost "obligated". Or the feeling of trying to be "bought". But I would personally (as a man) love a gift that shows that a woman really understands my interests or better yet "our interests", something we could do together that we both like. Also something that might be different and unique. Some experience we could enjoy together that was new to the both of us, or an adventure..... Go for a long ride to the country or small town, give him a disposable camera and the both of you take pictures of interesting things that you find, then try a new restaurant for dinner... or grab some watercolors and a couple of small canvases and go to a lake and try to paint and have a picnic. But if you really just want to get a material gift. The advice would be just to get something that shows him that you REALLY understand what he likes.

the dos and don'ts are guys don't want gifts bought for them. They just want there girlfriend for valentines. What is something sexual or naughty that he wants that you don't like doing or showing. Sexy outfit, dress up like a character he likes, guys love things like that on valentines day. Then on sweetest day, the guy should give back to the girl what she likes and wants. Maybe a massage or some kind of pamperment. Its all about doing what the other person wants, not what you want to do for them. If you are under age, please disregard all sexual and naughty suggestions and buy a nice box of chocolate and fluffy red pillow with your picture on it.

Don't buy a guy jewelry for Vday. It's too feminine and personal; leave it to his mom or his own personal tastes to buy it. I recommend something cute/sexy/simple. Buy him a cute flirty card, then go to Victoria's Secret, pick out something revealing and sexy. Wrap it in a box and send it to his office. Let his imagination run wild all day. =)

For Valentines Day, men DO NOT want:
Chocolate, cookies, or food of any kind
Toys of any kind
Boxers, sweaters, or clothes of any kind
Flowers
Cologne
Here's how it works: Men give you presents, you give men sex.
Whatever kind of sex act he doesn't get often enough, or at all, give him. Every healthy, honest man on the planet would agree.

i agree.. men love chocolate, too! as far as gifty kinds of things, i think it depends on the length of the relationship. If you've been together for a while, jewelry is good. Guys love gold. A nice watch is a good choice, too. :)

Here is the trick to gift giving.
Don't get anything that can be referred to as "stuff"
An objective stance should only be given to the thing in light to who it's for.
Maybe, something with use and purpose?
You can't go wrong.
