My boyfriend and I are moving to Denver in a few months. We both work at the airport but we also like to go hiking. He also has family in Loveland. We're looking for a suburb on the north side of Denver so it's close to Loveland and we'd also like to find a place that's a happy medium between the mountains to enjoy our days off and between the airport so we won't have a hectic commute. We'd like to live in a place that is safe and offers a lot of activities. We've been looking in Broomfield so far. Where else should we expand our search to. As far a location, we can look on a map, but we're not sure what the nice, safe areas are. Any help or ideas?

We've lived in Broomfield just over a year, we love it!!! To get to the airport you just hop onto E-470 (toll road). You have to pay tolls but there is virtually no traffic and it takes you straight to the airport (about 40 min. from Broomfield).

There are many new stores and things going up around Broomfield, but Broomfield itself is cornered on all sides so it is what it is, it can't get any bigger. The city taxes are high but you can actually see where your dollars are going--great schools, lots of really nice parks, nice city government complex and lots of police.

Other nice cities in the area: Louisville (this would be my second choice), Superior, Erie (small town but growing fast), Lafayette. Some parts of Westminster and Thornton are nice as well.

From Broomfield, you can be in Estes Park (entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park) in about an hour. You can be in Eldorado Canyon (some good hikes) in less than half an hour. So it's a pretty good location.

Drop me a line at coloradomrs30@<>hotmail.com if you want to chat! I know what you're going through; I did it myself just over 2 years ago!

I'd think about going to Thornton or to unincorporated areas north of Thornton, to cut down the commute.

C-470 from Broomfield to the Airport will cost you about $9 round trip. Thornton gets you closer and you could use free streets. Might be fewer activities than Broomfield, but they're both basically suburbs. Both are relatively safe, Thornton might have a very small advantage there.

The ultimate in a short commute to the airport would be the new development called "Reunion", just a few miles of low traffic roads away. 10-15 minutes. Should be very safe, because it's so far from the city. But it's also far from Denver activity, and the surrounding area is flat and mostly treeless..

Broomfield is probably a good idea. Thornton, Westminster, Northglenn are all in that same area, and all have quick access to E470 (super easy to get to the airport that way), and I-25 (straight to Loveland). Really all of those burbs are good communities with good schools, low crime, nice people, etc. I would say that places like Longmont, Louisville/Lafayette, Boulder are all a little too far if you're commuting to DIA (IMO). Any of those and you'll be adding an extra half hour or so to your commute.

I would say Thornton, Northglen and Westminer area is good. THey are close to but I25 and E470 so getting to Loveland and DIA would be fairly easy. Plus not too far from the mountains maybe a 45 minute drive up into the mountains but only 25 minutes from Boulder which is a good placeto start out a hiking day. Good luck!

Longmont is a pretty good city. Small enough to be OK, yet close enough to Denver to get there quickly. Longmont is also located in the foothills so you are close to the mountains.
Boulder is nice, but kind of like a throwback to the 1960s, unless you're into that. Also property there is expensive.
Anywhere in Weld county shouldn't be too bad.

Broomfield is pretty nice. It's growing quickly, though, if that matters. Very safe. We've got splendid marriage benefits here in Colorado so if you hurry up and marry your boyfriend you can have a lot better tax year next year. Very family-friendly town so I don't know how the whole live-in boyfriend thing goes over.

Thornton is nice. Easy access to 470 or 270 to the airport.

if you can afford it, Boulder. Eastern Boulder has better views of the mountains, while Western Boulder has lots and lots of trails winding thru the foothills. to DIA its only about 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic. and Boulder is probly one of the safest cities in Colorado.

I think if I had to live near Dever again it would be in Lyons or west of Fort lupton east of I-25
