you dont need to close you eyes to sleep. We have to because our eyes need constant liquid and need to clear away the debris and dust that get on our eyeballs. Fish are in the water, they dont need eyelids or to close them, Fish eyes are actually modified scales that reflect light and send images to the brain but tehy dont see like we do. To sleep all they need to do is to turn off there brains or tune down there brains to a minimal functioning cabablity, but fish dont sleep like us either, they have to be on some sort of constant awareness at all times, because of predators and that they have to have there gills and fins working. They catch snatchs of sleep every few minutes. They cant do 8 hours in a sealy posterpedic oueensize bed!!!

We do not sleep with our eyes. We sleep so that the brain can sort out things like a computer doing defragmentation. We close our eyes when we sleep because if they are left open they would dry up. Fish eyes do not dry out as they are in the water

Fish do not have eyelids, so they don't close their eyes. However it is essential that they rest. When you turn the light off on the aquarium, it's dark, and they can't see, they go into a trance-like state. The fish do little movement in the dark usually and sometimes sit on the bottom of the tank when the lights are off. So it is essential to your fish's health that you turn off the light, preferrably on a regular basis, so that they can "rest". This will help extend the life of your fish as well.

Most fish don't have eye lids so it's hard to tell if they're asleep but they do rest at the bottom of their bowl/tank. Sometimes it's hard to tell when SOME HUMANS are asleep because they sleep with their eyes open!

hmm...wierd how my two goldfish always "swim" motionless on one corner n their tank in the dark areas at night, and how my moms beta "sleeps" in her little cave and swims out when my dad wakes up at 5 am sharp.
