Diversity In Society Definition

The implications for what is now a hugely diverse and (in the main) inclusive society (i.e. modern Western Capitalist society) is that tolerance increases from a legal stand-point ... an inclusive and diverse society cannot have laws or norms which exlcude members due to ethnic, religious, cultural or socio-economic background or sexual orientation.

This can lead, however to the formation of de-facto ghettos and an increasingly fragmented socio-geographic make-up. "National Geographic" ran a great article in the early 1990s on the socio-cultural ethnic map of Chicago, which proved that waves of immigration had caused little more than a city made up of distinct ethnic neighbourhoods in all but the most affluent areas of the city.

The inclusion of less familiar groupings can lead to tension and a heightened sense of "the other" within a traditionally comfortable and homogenous environment, especially in the context of socio-economic deprivation and rising crime.

One must consider the largely utopian ideal which specifies that diversity enriches the socio-cultural makeup of a society... this is seldom, however, the case as economic factors tend to push successive waves of immigrants into the poorer and less mobile sectors of society. Where these immigrants manage to thrive, there can be resentment from those parts of the community who feel they have been driven farther down the social scale.

It's a complex issue and I can't claim to have come close to doing it justice here... Search for a reading list on "cultural diversity" and you should find some good stuff. Look at the positive contributions made by diversity (cuisine, arts, skills and beliefs) as well as the negative impact of ghettos and the loss of community (race riots, extremist beliefs in religious and political spheres). The recent "Celebrity Big Brother" debacle, should give you plenty of current material!!

Good luck!

Diversity, is the belief of others that are for:
Anyone who Bashes George Bush, Believes that all religions are true, so that none are, never says anything to anger, offend, or make anyone else feel uncomfortable, no matter how full of crap they want to say the other person is. They give all their money to feed the world organization, and never tell Ethiopian Jokes, or say the "N" word. They plant a tree on arbor day and are still blaming Charlton Heston for Collumbine because he is the head of the NRA, and they take Rosie O' FAT BUTT'S side of the fight over Donald Trumps, because they don't want to be considered Homaphobic. Little Angels follow them everywhere they go playing Dreamland Harps and waving little Rainbow Flags.

EVERY THING I AM NOT, and EVERYTHING I AM AGAINST!!!!!!!

It's just a stupid term made up by the Politically Correct Brigade. It means absolutely nothing, just a load of crap made up by the Government to try and cram their ideas down our throats i.e you must accept and love "multi culturism" and "ethnic diversity". All a load of junk.
The real meaning of diverse means "of differing kinds" and has been hijacked by politics.

I think that diversity is everything today. Everyone should be themselves, if everyone were the same, it would suck. We need geeks, populars, emos, to keep going, I'm serious, diversity is what makes the world so awesome.
