Would it be wise to switch my major from Computer Science to Accounting or Business Administration? Which one?

I think that with a limited number of jobs in the IT field and saturation of IT people desperate for work, competition will be fierce for jobs. Out of school I could get a job as a tester within six months or so making $20-25 an hour and move up from there.

Accounting offers more job prospects for less money, but with a CPA license it offers the opportunity to own my own accounting company doind peoples taxes...$$$$

Business Admin is rather interesting at my school. They have the best program for Business Administration I have ever seen and it covers a little of everything. Lot's of job prospects + I already have management experience so I would start above the average starting salary for graduates as I already make more than that now without a degree. + Law School??

Thing is, with the accounting and IT degree, I would be better of transfering schools since they have better programs elswhere. Ultimately I just want to start my own business, any business. What should I do?

You question is expressed well and indicates a lot of refection. I have an accounting degree and work as a tax auditor. I find the work interesting, challenging, and flexible. In terms of self satisfaction I must say I am highly satisfied with my employment. I interact on a daily basis with CPA's, accountants, and bookkeeping services. Many of them are quite successful while others appear to just carry on without a purpose of direction. I believe you will find accounting a great area with plenty of opportunities as well the ability to start your own business weather it be a bookkeeping service, accountant or a CPA firm. If you enjoy working with people, solving problems, and enjoy producing a product....then I think you have hit the nail on the head. Carpi Diem!

YESSSSSSSSS...that is a smart idea...that is what I did. I will be attending Michigan Tech. My bf's mom works in the IT field and she told me to avoid IT. She said offshoring and outsourcing has become big issues. She recently got a new job because she was likely going to lose her job. She said her co-workers at her old job, took pay CUTS in order to keep their jobs. This was a big company too, Computer Science Corporation. She now works at JPM Chase, where her job is more secure. I plan on majoring in Accounting and minoring in computer science. The computer science minor complements the accounting degree very well. I would like to attend law school after college. The IT field is insecure, I'd go with business, which is very broad and many job fields are left open. You decide to go to law school, you can be a tax attorney, real estate attorney...the limits are endless, but switching would be a great idea...and business would also enable you to start your own business. Well, I think it all depends on what your personal interests are. All three of those majors will qualify you for goods jobs that are in demand. It is just a matter of where your own strengths lie. Do not choose a major only because it offers a higher starting salary. If you are better in one field that offers less salary than another field that you aren't as "gifted" in, you will probably be better off choosing the field you are best in and will advance up the ladder quicker and easier, thereby making more money than you would have in another, higher paying field.
