Press Fn + F8 or Fn + F5. It depends on what key is used for the CRT/LCD function.

You probably dont have the monitor enabled. Differnet laptops do it differently, but for an IBM thinkpad, it's Fn F5 I believe. Look for a little icon on either the number keys or the Function keys - on my thinkpad the icons are dark blue.

Failing that, you may have to go into the BIOS. But I doubt that.

Try pressing FN + F11

The power saving technology in your lap top has turned off this port.

If that does not work, try FN + F8, F9, and F10.

The function keys are at the top of the keyboard and the FN function is at the bottom, probably next to the control key.

One of the function buttons at the top of the keyboard is a switch for switching between internal and external monitor. Look for the key with a picture of two screens on it.

Look for the VGA Port on the laptop and plug in the vga cable (coming from monitor) to it.

Then you can view the screen on laptop, monitor or both.

the solution for you is to RTM, read the manual.

Since you do not mention the brand and mdoel of your laptop, this is the only suggestion I can make

In IBM Thinkpad, there is an F key that you push to make external monitor work, in my Gateway laptop, it is the F4 key.

What brand and model is yours? Only you know it and you should read the manual. If you want me to help, state your laptop brand and model please
